Fun with Food - Science Experiments was our theme for this evening...
The girls had 6 activities to complete this evening:
1) Make hokey pokey! Everyone had great fun boiling up the hokey pokey recipe.
2) Popcorn experiment: the girls took popcorn that had been soaked in water and popcorn that was dry and popped it in my popcorn maker. This was to see what the different reactions would be - the "wet" popcorn turned a little crispy in the popcorn maker, while the "dry" popcorn was quite tasty to eat!
3) Water & Oil: this experiment showed how water and oil mixes together. This works better in a bowl or pot as the bottle became unusable after the first experiment because of the oil!
4) Invisible Ink: the girls got to make their own invisible ink pictures using lemon juice and cotton buds. The girls then learned how to juice lemons to create more invisible ink for the next group. The girls will need to heat their pictures up at home because they were too wet to "see"!
5) Potato or Apple? This experiment takes two alike looking foods and gets the girls to compare which is which. The girls weren't so keen on eating the potato plate, but the apple slices went down a treat.
6) Test Your Dominant Side: this experiment got the girls to work out which side of their body that they do basic tasks with - click the link to see the questions!
This was the last evening for Harriet as she is off to England before she goes to Guides next term - thank you for the lovely Crunchie bars as a present to everyone! We hope you enjoy your new adventures at Guides.
At the end of the evening we all got to taste some of our wonderful hokey pokey and take some home.
