Week 5, 18th May 2010

Tonight we completed more Science Whiz experiments.

Girls got to complete the following experiments:

1) Ice Cube: where the girls attempted to pick up an ice cube using only a piece of string and some salt (no hands!)? N.B. Debbie (the mother helper) found that this experiment worked much better if you used sewing thread and didn't add too much salt to the ice cube!

2) Magic Potion: a Harry Potter type experiment using vinegar and baking soda to make a small explosion!

3) Bending Water: an experiment using static electricity, a comb and some running tap water.
4) Slime: Gina helped the girls make slime using cornflour and water and food colouring. Quite simple to create and the girls just loved getting their hands dirty and gloopy!

5) Submarines: I purchased some small submarines which you fill with baking soda, shake and place in a glass of water for it zoom back up in, like a submarine does!

To finish the evening, we sung our favourite songs from the Let's Sing Song Book which is full of Guiding songs that we sing at camp.
